I’m not sure if it’s the insane danger, the bone crushing crashes or the challenge of watching a 180-pound man pit his grip strength and balance against the power of a 2000-pound angry animal. Whatever the reason, millions of people find it impossible to look away when a cowboy straddles a beast that’s about to do everything in its power to keep him from staying there, for what must seem like to the rider, a never ending eight seconds.
Scott Mendes was one of those cowboys. But in his case, the bulls lost more battles than they won, and Scott went on to win the 1997 PRCA World Championship. That platform gave him the opportunity to do the one thing that he loves most; telling people about the grace and love of Jesus Christ.
He does that through the Western Harvest Ministry and Conquering the Beast Pro Rodeo League. He has trained hundreds of young cowboys how to compete at a championship level and more importantly, how to build character and conquer the beast that may be lurking inside.
Listen to the Family Stories podcast as Scott shares his story. If you have kids or grandkids that love Rodeo, they won’t want to miss this. World Champion Scott Mendes.
